The First Year…
It has been a little over a year since I accepted my role as FCA’s Vice President for the Great Lakes Region and the most frequent question I get is, “Are you glad you took the position?”
The answer is, “Yes!” and I can say it’s been with great joy that I have worked with our wonderful staff and volunteers in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia – as well as our international partners in the Caribbean.
I can say it’s been with GREAT JOY for a variety of reasons, but I want to share with you three:
- The PEOPLE – I have the opportunity to serve alongside 90 FCA staff who have been called by God to minister to coaches and athletes in their community. Their greatest desire is to teach others about Jesus. As a practical demonstration of their calling, they commit to raise the resources required to fund the ministry in their community. Helping them grow their capacity to minister in their area is a joy!
- The RESULTS – We experienced 47% growth in the number of campers at our camps this summer. A total of 2,626 campers attended one of our camps – with an even 400 professing a first-time commitment to Christ! We hosted a marriage retreat for 36 coaches and their spouses. When you add to those numbers the tens of thousands of people have been touched by our campus ministry over the past 12 months – that brings me great joy!
- The FUTURE – As excited as I am about the past year, I am even more excited about the future. We continue to add new staff in strategic areas (13 people in the process of joining the team as I type!), we have access to some new ministry resources – like a text response tool for those who make a profession of faith – that will enable us to be better at discipleship, and we continue to explore ways to minister to coaches and athletes throughout our area. It brings great joy knowing that as much as we have grown, there are still many opportunities out there!
Thank you for giving generously of your time, talent, and treasure to allow us to continue to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. It is my prayer that it will bring you great JOY in knowing you have partnered with us to share Jesus with many!
May the Lord bless you for the blessing you have been to me and many others!
